What Is a Digital Vehicle Inspection?
A digital vehicle inspection is a structured check of a vehicle where a technician records what they find and sends it to the owner as a report, with photographs of the components in question. Instead of a handwritten list or a phone call full of terms you have to take on faith, you get something you can look at, save, and think about.
Ours runs as a 30-Point inspection, built to identify issues early rather than after they become the reason you are stuck somewhere. A vehicle coming in for an oil change gets one. So does a vehicle in for something specific, because the thing you came in for is rarely the only thing worth knowing about.
Worth saying plainly: an inspection is not a repair. It tells you the state of the car. What you do about that is a separate decision, and it is yours.
What You Actually Receive
Findings you can read
A record of what was checked and what condition it is in, written to be understood rather than to sound impressive.
Photographs
Images of the components in question, on your vehicle. Not a stock diagram of what a worn part looks like in general.
A quote, first
You receive a quote before any repairs are performed, with transparent estimates so the cost is clear before you decide.
Status you can follow
Track your vehicle's repair status through our online portal, with real-time updates as work progresses.
Why Photographs Change the Conversation
Consider the ordinary version of this. A shop calls and says the brakes need doing. You have no way to evaluate that, so you either agree because arguing feels rude, or you decline because you suspect an upsell. Both outcomes are bad. One costs you money you may not have needed to spend, the other leaves a real problem unfixed.
Now put a photograph in the middle. You can see the pad. You can see how much is left. You can send it to a friend who knows cars, or sit on it for a day, or say go ahead. The decision becomes yours because the evidence is yours.
It also helps on the things that are genuinely easy to check yourself. Tread depth is one. NHTSA recommends replacing tires once tread reaches 2/32 of an inch, and once you have seen your own tires in a report you tend to keep an eye on them.
The same goes for scheduling. The non-profit Car Care Council publishes a general service interval schedule for the major systems on a passenger vehicle. Read alongside your owner's manual and an inspection report, it turns maintenance into a plan rather than a series of emergencies.
Bring it in and find out
No obligation attached to the findings. You will know what your vehicle needs and what it costs, and then you decide.
Quote before any repairs. Transparent estimates on every job.
What Happens On the Day
Before you come in, do three small things. Clear personal items out of the vehicle. Make sure the fuel tank is at least a quarter full. And write down any specific issues or concerns you want to raise, because the noise you noticed three weeks ago will not repeat itself on command in the bay.
That last one matters more than people expect. A technician who knows the sound happens on cold mornings, turning left, at low speed, has a far better starting point than one told only that something sounds odd.
Then the inspection runs. The 30 points get checked, the findings get recorded, the photographs get taken, and you get the report and the quote. Nothing is repaired until you say so.
If you are due for a Virginia state inspection, that is a separate, legally required check with its own pass and fail criteria. The two are different things, and it is worth knowing which one you are booking.

Questions We Get Asked
What is a digital vehicle inspection?
It is a documented check of your vehicle where the findings are sent to you with photographs of the components involved, rather than described verbally. At Geipel AutoWorks it runs as a 30-Point inspection designed to identify issues early.
Will I get a price before any work starts?
Yes. You receive a quote before any repairs are performed, and we provide transparent estimates so you understand the costs before deciding.
How do I check on my car while it is in the shop?
Through our online portal, where you can get real-time updates on your vehicle's progress, or by contacting us directly.
What should I do before bringing my vehicle in?
Clear personal items from the vehicle, make sure the fuel tank is at least a quarter full, and note any specific issues or concerns to discuss with the technician.
Is a digital vehicle inspection the same as a Virginia state inspection?
No. A Virginia state inspection is a legally required safety check with defined pass and fail criteria. A digital vehicle inspection is a condition report on your vehicle. Geipel AutoWorks performs both, but they are separate services.
What kinds of vehicles do you work on?
Cars, trucks, and SUVs across a wide range of makes and models, both domestic and foreign.
